Audience Monitoring with Advision Radar
Overview
Advision Radar is a real-time audience measurement technology that estimates the number of potential viewers for digital signage displays.
The solution consists of:
- a dedicated Advision Radar hardware device;
- cloud-based software integrated into the Advision platform.
The system continuously collects audience data and makes it available within the Advision dashboard with only a short delay of a few minutes.
How Advision Radar Works
The Advision Radar device is built around a Wi-Fi module that detects nearby mobile devices within its coverage area.
By estimating the number of detectable devices near a display, the system calculates the approximate audience size in real time.
This measurement approach is particularly effective in high-traffic locations. Although not every passerby carries a detectable device or has Wi-Fi enabled, the collected data can be adjusted using a configurable statistical correction factor to improve estimation accuracy.
Connecting an Advision Radar Device
To connect a Radar device:
- Select the screen near which the device is installed.
- Open the Audience tab.
From this page, users can either:
- specify a fixed number of expected viewers manually; or
- connect an Advision Radar device using the provided device key and password.
Users can also configure a measurement adjustment factor to compensate for statistical error.
Audience Data
Once connected, audience data becomes available on the Impressions page.
Users can filter the displayed information by:
- date range;
- screens (equipped with Advision Radar devices);
- media assets (creatives/files).
The page includes both graphical and tabular reports based on the selected filters.
No Screen Selected
If no screen is selected, the dashboard displays aggregated audience data from all connected Radar devices and any manually configured fixed audience values.
One or More Screens Selected
When one or more screens are selected, only audience data associated with those screens is displayed.
Creative-Level Audience Estimation
Users can also select a specific creative (media file).
The system combines:
- audience measurements collected by Advision Radar;
- playback logs for the selected creative;
to estimate how many viewers were exposed to that particular piece of content.
For example:
- Screen audience measurements indicate how many people were near the display during a given period.
- Playback statistics indicate when a creative was shown.
- By correlating these datasets, Advision estimates the number of impressions generated by the selected creative.
Benefits of Advision Radar
Advision Radar provides a practical way to measure the effectiveness of digital signage campaigns by enabling users to:
- monitor audience traffic in near real time;
- estimate the reach of individual screens;
- evaluate the audience exposure of specific creatives;
- compare performance across different screens and time periods;
- support campaign reporting with audience-based impression estimates.
By combining audience measurement with playback analytics, Advision Radar offers valuable insight into both overall screen reach and the estimated visibility of individual advertising campaigns.
