Advision Dashboard: Broadcast Fill Rate Calculation and Color Indicators
Dashboard Overview
The Dashboard is available to users with the following roles:
- Owner
- Content Manager (Moderator)
The dashboard provides an hourly overview of broadcast fill rates for each screen, helping users identify available advertising inventory and schedule additional content efficiently.
Commercial Cycle
Each screen has a configurable Commercial Cycle Duration, specified in seconds within the screen settings.
If no value is specified, the system uses a default commercial cycle of 300 seconds (5 minutes).
When calculating broadcast utilization:
- only playlist content is considered;
- continuous background content is excluded from the calculation.
Hourly Fill Rate Calculation
Broadcast utilization is calculated separately for every hour of the day.
For a playlist to be included in the calculation for a specific hour, it must:
- be scheduled to play on the selected day of the week;
- have a broadcast time that begins before the 30th minute of the hour;
- end after the 30th minute of the same hour.
Example
For the time slot 01:00–02:00, the following playlists are included:
- 00:00–03:00
- 01:29–03:00
- 00:00–01:31
- 01:29–01:31
Playlists that do not overlap the midpoint of the hour are not included in that hour's calculation.
Fill Rate Calculation by Playlist Type
Each playlist type contributes differently to the overall broadcast utilization.
Filler Playlist
For a Filler playlist, the total duration of all media files is compared directly with the commercial cycle duration.
For example:
- Commercial cycle: 300 seconds
- Playlist duration: 150 seconds
Fill rate:
150 ÷ 300 = 50%
If the playlist duration equals 300 seconds, the fill rate is 100%.
Periodic Playlist
For Periodic playlists, utilization depends on both the playlist duration and its playback interval.
The calculation is based on:
Total Playlist Duration ÷ Playback Interval × 100
Examples
Example 1
- Playlist duration: 150 seconds
- Playback interval: 150 seconds
The playlist plays twice during a 300-second commercial cycle:
150 + 150 = 300 seconds
Result:
100% utilization
Example 2
- Playlist duration: 150 seconds
- Playback interval: 300 seconds
The playlist plays once during the commercial cycle.
Result:
50% utilization
Example 3
Two periodic playlists:
Playlist A
- Duration: 150 seconds
- Interval: 300 seconds
- Utilization: 50%
Playlist B
- Duration: 150 seconds
- Interval: 600 seconds
- Utilization: 25%
Combined utilization:
75%
Floating Playlist
Floating playlists are calculated similarly to Periodic playlists.
Instead of a fixed interval, the system estimates utilization based on the configured number of playbacks during the broadcast period.
Combined Fill Rate
The utilization percentages of:
- Filler playlists
- Periodic playlists
- Floating playlists
are added together.
Example
Scheduled playlists:
- Two Filler playlists: 15% total
- Two Periodic playlists: 25% total
- Two Floating playlists: 35% total
Total utilization:
15% + 25% + 35% = 75%
If the combined utilization exceeds 100%, the schedule is considered overbooked.
Block Playlist Calculation
When a Block playlist is scheduled:
- other playlist types are not played during the block;
- other playlists are excluded from fill rate calculations.
The block playlist utilization is calculated as:
(Sum of media durations × Number of repetitions) ÷ Block Duration
Dashboard Color Indicators
The dashboard uses six colors to visualize broadcast utilization.
| Color | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Black | Playlists are assigned, but none contains media files. |
| Orange | Broadcast utilization is below 50%. |
| Green | Broadcast utilization is between 50% and 90%. |
| Blue | Broadcast utilization is between 90% and 100%. |
| Red | Broadcast utilization exceeds 100% (overbooked). |
| Gray | No playlists are scheduled during that hour. |
Planning Additional Content
Using the dashboard, users can quickly identify screens and time periods with available broadcast capacity.
To schedule additional content:
- Select one or more screens.
- Select the desired time period with insufficient utilization.
- Click Schedule.
The system opens the Create Playlist dialog with:
- the selected broadcast period already pre-filled;
- the selected screens already assigned.
This allows users to create and schedule new playlists without re-entering the selected parameters.
